“Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Character is everything.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Overview: Workouts are in full swing and I have been extremely happy with the effort and energy that I have seen in the skill sessions. Our June schedule has been finalized and the coaching staff is very excited about the opportunity that each team will have to improve this summer. I do want the players and parents to know that I met with the head coaches of all the major sports at Rocky prior to putting together the schedule. The purpose of that meeting was to minimize event conflicts that forced multi-sport athletes to make a choice between participating in one sport over another.
Introducing Coach Callahan: I would like to take a moment to introduce to you the newest member of our coaching staff, Mike Callahan. Coach Callahan brings to the program a fundamental based philosophy, optimistic energy, and 6 years of high school coaching experience. Coach Callahan will serve as the varsity assistant to Coach Rakiecki. In addition to his basketball experience, Coach Callahan is also an experienced Mathematics teacher at Rocky and will serve as a mentor and coach to the members of the basketball program. Coach Callahan’s education includes an undergraduate from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Coach Callahan grew up in metro Detroit and has taught High School Mathematics for 9 years. Coach Callahan said, “I decided to help out the boys program because I enjoy being in the gym, working out with the kids, sharing my basketball experiences, and continuing to learn about and teach the game of basketball. I look forward to working with the staff, many of whom I have known for years, and continue to move the program forward.” Please take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome Coach Callahan to our family.
May 1, 2013: Summer Camp Meeting: Please plan on attending our summer camp meeting to outline all the opportunities your sons have to improve this June. Kids Camp: As always, the boys and girls basketball programs team up in the spring to host a kids camp. This year the camp will be held May 28th-29th, from 4-8 pm at Rocky.
